Happy passover ja hyvää pääsiäistä to all!

So my internship began on Monday. The first day  I just got to start to get familiar with the newest of new (not really, quite the opposite ;D ) total station. You can see it on the two pictures under. I got my own computer place with two screens and even the phone has my name on it :D The first day this Russ told me about this total station. I've used one like this before, but it was in Finnish and this one is in English of course. And also because it's not the newest it's a bit more complicated to use maybe. The new ones have thouch screen and they are like computers in many ways and they even speak. I also got some street plans to look at to remove some things that weren't needed anymore. These plans had already been put into practice before. They just need those plans to look more simple and the things that had been removed when building something new, like a new pipe under some road, had to be removed from the plans also. 

Harjoitteluni alkoi sitten maanantaina ja aluksi yksi Ross opasti mua käyttämään paikan takymetriä, joka on lähemmäs 20 vuotta vanha (näkyy kahdessa alemmassa kuvassa). Koulussa kaikki takyt on ihan uusia ja hienoja ja niissä on kosketusnäyttö ja ne puhuvat myös. Olen käyttänyt tollasta ihan samanlaista takya viime kesänä kesätöissä, mutta se oli tietenkin suomenkielinen, kun tämä taas on englanninkielinen, mikä tekee asiasta hieman haastavampaa. Sain harjottelupaikasta oman loosin, missä on tietokone kahdella näytöllä ja jopa siellä olevassa puhelimessa lukee mun nimi, siistii :D . Maanantaina ja tiistaina käsittelin AutoCADillä sellasia tiesuunnitelmia, jotka on jo toteutettukin käytännössä, ja niistä piti vaan poistaa ylimääräsiä juttuja ja vanhoja asioita, joita oli poistettu uutta rakennettaessa. 

On Wednesday and today me and two other girls went to this river to do some surveying. I was in control of the total station. It was really exciting because there wasn't enough bench marks or "known points" as we call them in Finland. We had to go over that river, by walking in the water, we had to wear these waders that protect you from getting wet. The fact was, of course, that all of them leaked a little... :)  

Keskiviikkona ja tänään oltiin sitten kahden muun tytön kanssa yhdellä joella mittaamassa joen pohjaa. Se oli aika mielenkiintosta ja haastavaakin. Meidän piti vetää päälle sellaset kalastajien käyttämät kahluusaappaat, ettei kastuttais, mutta yllättäen kaikki ne vuoti jonkun verran. Mun tehtävänä oli vaan hoitaa sitä takymetriä ja mentiin sinne sen takia, että sen joen yli menee 4 siltaa ja sitä tietä ollaan ilmeisesti leventämässä jolloin siihen pitää myös tehdä enemmän tai isommat sillat ja se taas vaikuttaa siihen jokeen. Cortneyn alaa on kalat ja niiden elinympäristö ja se haluaa siit joen pohjasta profiilin mitä mä siis sillä takylla mittaan. Cortneyn pitää tietää siitä joesta kaikkia eri juttuja just sen tien levennyksen takia, joten sen takia ollaan siellä mittailemassa ja tutkiskelemassa joen pohjaa. Meidän piti kävellä siellä joessakin, mikä oli aivan uusi kokemus...

There were some problems at first, mainly with the results but we got it to work finally and it was my fault. For my defence I can say that I'm in a strange country working with a strange machine and even the site is unordinary. Courtney's area of work is fish and how big roads influense fish species and she needs to get a profile of the river bottom and that's the reason for us going there. I've never been walking in a river and certainly not with a 20 kg weighing total station on my back. We'll have to go back there on next Monday, because the river has two different forks that go under a really big road and we've measured just one of the forks. They are planning to widen the bridges (and the whole road) that go over the river so they'll have to know what kind of habitat different fish and other animals have there. Cortney is also studying what the river bottom is like, is it mud or sand or what, but I'm just interested in the surveying.

Meillä oli jonkun verran ongelmia, lähinnä tulosten kanssa, ja se oli aivan täysin mun vikaa. Mutta puolustukseksi voi sanoa, että olen vieraassa maassa tekemässä vieraalla koneella töitä ja vielä erikoisessa paikassa :) Lopulta saatiin tulokset mätsään ja ollaan menossa vielä ens maanantaina tekemään lisää mittauksia sinne. Siinä joessa on kaks haaraa ja toistaseks on saatu mitattua vaan yks, mutta luultavasti saadaan tehtyä se loppuun maanantaina, koska nyt osaan käyttää sitä konetta. 

Tomorrow we're going to see some relatives since it's a long weekend. We might even go to states, but we'll see that later then. Everything's going well and I'm really happy and blessed being here, I love God for giving this chance for me (allthough I would love him even without this experience too).

Huomenna lähdetään sukulaisiin, kun on pitkä viikonloppu. Me saatetaan mennä käymään jopa USA:ssa, mutta sen näkee sit myöhemmin. Kaikki menee hyvin ja oon niiiiiin ilonen ja siunattu saadessani olla täällä. Jumala on ihan paras ja rakastan häntä kun oon saanut tän mahdollisuuden (vaikka rakastaisin kyllä ilmankin tätä kokemusta).
