Someone of my friends had decided to make a nice morning for me by sending the sleet from Finland to Canada. It was supposed to sleet and snow and rain yesterday already but luckily it only happened this morning for a short time. But I still think we would have survived better without it... Here are a pew pictures I took from "my" window this morning.
Joku ihana ystävä oli ilmeisesti päättänyt yllättää mut mukavasti lähettämällä ihanan räntäsateen Suomesta tänne. Eilen illalla oli jo tarkoitus sataa räntää, lunta ja vettä, mutta onneks niitä tuli vaan tänään aamulla hetken aikaa. Mutta luulempa, että oltais selvitty ihan ilmankin :D Tässä muutama kuva, joita otin "mun" ikkunasta aamulla.
Today was also a day the locals call "garbage day". It's the day I wrote about last week. People were better prepared for the weather and didn't put their garbage out last night like they apparently do normally. This morning I got to take a picture of those funny and not-so-nice-looking-to-my-eyes garbages. Some streets they have big black bags just laying in piles so these ones on the pictures don't look as bad. But I still find it a bit weird and I'm happy we do differently in Finland.
Tänään oli myös roskispäivä, kuten paikalliset sitä nimittää. Kirjotin siitä viime viikolla. Ihmiset oli paremmin varautuneita säähän ja pistivät vasta aamulla roskat ulos eilisillan sijaan (normaalisti siis laittavat ne jo illalla). Pääsin ottaan pari kuvaa noistakin mielestäni ei niin ihanan näköisistä roskiksista. Joillain kaduilla on isoja mustia roskasäkkejä kasassa joten tällä kadulla on siistin näköstä siihen verrattuna. Mutta siltikin mun mielestä vähän outo tapa ja oon ilonen, että Suomessa tehdään erilailla.
Tomorrow we are going out to do some surveying again. This time Russ, the guy who's been showing me how to use the total station, is coming too. There has been some funny mistakes or something everytime I can't possibly explain when we've been surveying before so he's coming to make sure that we do it right. And anyway he's going to be there only a few hours, not the whole day. The reason we are going is that they are going to widen the existing road and there are houses on both sides of it and the elevations of the yards vary a lot (in Finland that wouldn't be possible). There is also this bog that is preserved and the (rain)water taking all the trash from the road is currently going staight to the bog which isn't good. So they need to know the elevations of the hill that leads to the bog so they can plan how to keep the water from ending up to the bog. Luckily tomorrow it's supposed to be better weather so I won't be needing my rain coat. :)
Huomenna ollaan menossa taas mittailemaan. Tällä kertaa myös Russ, se, joka mua on opastanut käyttään sitä takyä, tulee mukaan. Mittauksissa on ollut joka kerta jotain häikkää, jota en oo mitenkään voinut selittää joten se tulee varmistamaan, että kaikki tapahtuu oikein :) Ja se tulee vaan muutamaks tunniks, ei koko päiväks. Syy, miks ollaan menossa, on olemassa olevan kadun levennys. Kadun kummallakin puolella on taloja ja niiden pihojen korkeudet eroaa tosi paljon toisistaan (mikä ei olis Suomessa mahdollista). Siellä on myös sellanen suojeltu suo tai räme, johon kaikki (sade)vedet tieltä tällä hetkellä laskee ja tuo mukanaan kaikkee roskaa. Meidän pitää siis saada tietoon sinne suolle viettävän mäen korkeudet, jotta voidaan suunnitella miten pitää vedet poissa sieltä suolta. Onnellisesti huomenna ei pitäis sataa joten en tarvii sadetakkia mukaan.
