Welcome to London

Last week we took a walk on the river in London and today we did the same and I had my camera with me so I'm going to share some of the photos I took. The name of the river is Thames, of course, because we are in London. I think you can find almost every place that is in London, UK, here too. The streets have same names and every place you go to you see something that you've heard of.

Viime viikolla käveltiin joen rantaa täällä Londonissa ja tänään tehtiin sama uudestaan. Tällä kertaa otin myös kamerani mukaan. Joen nimi on siis Thames, kuten "oikeessakin" Lontoossa. Täältä löytyy luullakseni melkein kaikki paikat, mitä Britannian Lontoossa on. Teillä on samoja nimiä ja kaikki paikat joihin meet, on sellasia, joista oot jo kuullut.

At the moment the water level is really low since it hasn't been raining for a while and I've been told there wasn't any snow to bring melting waters this winter either. The river is actually 273 km long, even though it doesn't seem so. The picture abowe is taken in a bank that was built after a massive flood that destroyded many houses or something. Under you can see a photo of a sign that says "Flood of 1883" and I can tell you that the sign is at least 5 m above the river, I think it's higher even, maybe 8 m, but can't be sure...

Yks hassu juttu Suomeen verrattuna täällä on. Suomessa kaikki oravat on sellasia punaruskeita.

Under: The path that is next to the river is about 3-4 m abowe the water level. It was just beautiful day and it was nice to walk there. There's one funny thing compared to Finland. In Finland all squirrels are redish brown but here they have black, grey and brown ones. They are so qute! :D Behind this house there is a small forest which is quite uncommon here and while you're eating your breakfast you can entertain yourself by watching the squirrels play. There can be as many as 6 squirrels at the same time and they are so funny! They run on the fence using it as their highway. There is a picture of one black squirrel I saw in a park while we were walking.

There is this big fountain that wasn't on last time we went there. There's some guy who just went fishing there. We actually saw some fish on the river and I tried to take a picture of them but that didn't turn out well.

Joku tyyppi meni just kalaan, kun otin kuvaa. :/

There is this old castle-like building downtown and like the label says it used to be the court house. Nowadays thay have a much bigger one (I'll have to get a photo of it...) that looks like some horrible prison where no one can get out. It's made of concrete and the windows are small or nonexistent and it's just scary. Wouldn't want to have to go in.

Downtown is a lot different than the ones in Finland. We always have a city center with a market place and you can see the center of the town is different to other parts of town. Here you can't really say if some place is a city center or not since all the places look the same (to me :D ). There's a lot of shops all around the city so you don't need to go downtown to buy clothes like you do in Finland (unless you go to Ideapark in Lempäälä). There's two malls here, one of them is next to my intern place.
At work this week we went to that small river again on Monday and luckily got it finished so after that I've been editing those AutoCAD-maps again. Tomorrow we are going to do some survey at the University. There's a drive way that needs surveying and we also have to survey the trees next to it and some lamps. I't suppose to be a nice weather tomorrow so I'm excited. And I'm quite sure I won't be making so many mistakes this time :D

Downtown London. Londonin keskustaa.

This one's for Amy :)

You know I still get that funny feeling every now and then, "I'm in Canada" :D It's just so amazing that something like this happens to me, a normal girl from Finland. I'm so happy that God would make this happen and I hope I'll learn something new about God and myself while I'm here. On Sunday I'll definitely be going to church again, can't wait...

Blessings to everyone who reads this!

  1. EEEEEEE! It all sounds so exciting! It's so cool all the things you are doing and learning. You are so right about the city center thing, we really don't have them in the Americas. And yes, the modern day courthouses are indeed a scarey sight to see! Thanks for thinking of me too. ;) I miss you lots, but I take comfort in seeing how much you are enjoying yourself. :) Lot's of love!
